Lab News – December 2024

Lab News

Mergers & acquisitions (M&A) in the environmental laboratory space have been slow in mid-2024, but have started to pick up. SGS North America, Inc. (SGS) has added two more environmental laboratories to its portfolio.

SGS Expands East Coast Presence with Acquisition of AMA

SGS announced in October that it had acquired AMA Analytical Services (AMA). With the integration of AMA, an environmental testing provider specializing in laboratory services for asbestos, lead/metals, and microbial analysis, SGS is expanding its East Coast presence to better meet testing needs for the built environment. The announcement stated, “By bringing AMA into our network, we’re able to offer enhanced capacity, new certifications, and strengthened support to help you navigate today’s regulatory landscape. Our expanded reach allows us to provide faster, high-quality results tailored to your project needs.”

SGS Adds PFAS Testing Laboratory, Katahdin, to its Network

On October 18, 2024, SGS announced it had added Katahdin Analytical Services (Katahdin) to its network of laboratories. Based in Maine, Katahdin is a New England provider of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and Department of Defense (DoD) certified testing. Katahdin is the 19th facility in the SGS network and is SGS’s seventh laboratory with PFAS testing capabilities. “Bringing Katahdin into our fold reinforces our commitment to leading the industry in both emerging contaminants and conventional environmental analysis in North America,” said Marcus Maguire, Head of Environment, Health, and Safety at SGS.

As we head into the 1st Quarter of 2025, the uptick in M&A activity in the environmental laboratory space is expected to continue.
