Technical Director of Chemistry/Principal Rock J. Vitale, CEAC, CPC, founded Environmental Standards in 1987 to provide niche services including environmental quality assurance, data validation, and consulting geosciences. David R. Blye, CEAC; Gerald L. Kirkpatrick, P.G.; Dennis P. Callaghan; Ruth L. Forman, CEAC; Daniel P. Claycomb, P.G.; and Phillip D. McKalips, P.G., subsequently joined Mr. Vitale as Principals of Environmental Standards and brought a wealth of environmental consulting experience to the firm.

Environmental Standards experienced rapid growth in the early 1990s, earning honors as one of the Fastest Growing Companies as ranked by the Philadelphia Business Journal. The firm's continued growth was recognized as Environmental Standards was named to the Inc. 5000 list of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
